Catching Ferry at Picton

Queuing for ferries that cross the Cook straight between islands is often deadly boring and awfully exhausting . So it would be good to have a short nap or fixing ourselves a light snack inside the cabin.

We just stop there for a quick break. It's the other side of Lake Taupo and peaceful and quiet place.

On Ferry

In Picton we boarded the ferry for Wellington. We arrived at the terminal extremely early so we had plenty of time to get light snacks and good rest before boarding.

Once on the ferry, there were not a lot of passengers so we could select seats just about anywhere. It really was fun to explore the ship and go topside see the scenery.

Te Moenga Reserve

This small sandy beach was quiet and peaceful. It picturesquely lined with beautiful trees and had handy access to a boat launch and fishing pier.

The reserve was not too far from Taupo Township and other local amenities.

Parking at Supermarket

We have stopped at supermarkets en route but rather choose the larger ones with massive carpark and park out of the way so not to upset anyone. I wish supermarkets have special areas for over-sized vehicles, i.e. motorhomes, trucks.

Uretiti Campsite

This is a fabulous campsite, located just behind the dunes and the beach is merely a minutes stroll through them.  It is a part of the Bream Bay coastline and most of the gorgeous sand dunes are simply stunning. Moreover Uretiti campsite is a drone friendly. So far so good.
