Now I am trying to drive without the satellite navigation system if the target destination is not far from where I live. I used to drive relying on maps and my brain but now TomTom is crucial in my driving habitat and I am concerning about losing navigating instinct that was survival skill as well as the hunting knack since around 100,000 years ago.
Just before the navigation stage, I used to find the destination on Google map and printed out the map and did the simulation on my mind or just wrote down the turning direction with the names of the streets. Of course, before Google map era, I did it with the diehard map book.
Actually I hardly missed the turning spots or lost my way during the driving at that time but now I often miss the turning spots. The best benefit I can get in using TomTom is that I am enable to enjoy the scenery while I am driving without concentrating the names of the roads or turning spot. Moreover while I am touring on the camper-van, I can visit numerous small towns with attractive spots without concerning to find the returning route to the motor way.
I might try to drive without the navigation system if it is not far away or I can remember the route so I can retain my hunting instinct.
