Empire of the summer moon by S.C. Gwynne
I think this is an excellent book, thoroughly researched, informative, well paced and always interesting. While the narrative focuses on Quanah Parker and his own family history, it goes so much further than just this fascinating tale. It also gives an amazing insight into the battles, brutality and dynamic nature of life on the frontier.
Throughout the book the author introduces us to a series of fascinating historical figures and does an excellent job in exploring their motivations, courage and often tragic stories. In short, this is the history and stories of the battles, wars and clashes of civilisations’ that led to the development of the United States.
