Another Year

I think this is not a fast-moving drama. It is a real slow-burner as it starts very slow and then reels you in scene by scene by the sheer magnificence of the acting and the script. It is very European art movie like yet in British English! The theme is the pleasure of strong relationships, loyal friendships, acceptance of other people, 'without pretense', and generally coming to terms with ourselves in the autumn years.

However I believe, this might be a movie people should see when they are in a reasonably good mood. If you are already depressed, it will plunge you into depths of despair as the movie gives viewers a haunting look into life of elderly people in modern day Britain with sour relationships, alcohol and death of loved ones. Nevertheless this is a brilliant movie because it shows how life is not as rosy as it seems and people live on with all the troubles that has to endure in life.

In a nutshell, this film gives an interesting insight into the life of secular middle-class everyday where lives revolve around the same old mundane practices and routines year in year out. I think this film tells what a life might be without faith. Yeah right.
