The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman
I think this book is a real eye opener for people who may not grasp the effect technology has had on the world and will continue to have on the world.
As being someone who is heavily involved in Internet technology, I was still quite astounded by some of the anecdotes and examples in the book. I found his recap and explanations a little boring for me since I am very experienced with web technology, information technology, network technology, and even taught courses at one time about the Internet for lawyers. However, I think these explanations and descriptions of the technologies and systems in the book would not only be fascinating but easy to grasp for the non-technical reader.
It is a very objective overview of technological impact on globalisation and the world economy, especially where outsourcing is concerned. I think it is important that we all understand that outsourcing doesn't necessarily have a negative effect on our economy as we are led to believe, and can and will have positive effects for USA as well as countries around the world in the long term if we are innovative and adaptable.
I indeed believe that Technology is "opening" borders and barriers around the world, which will lead to better relations, capitalism, and better rights for everyone.
