Bossypants by Tina Fey
I eagerly bought this after the free sample had me in stiches. The rest of the book didn't quite keep pace with the stellar beginning, though. For me, it felt a series of short stories that might've been better off if each had been written to stand alone. Instead, it felt like there was an effort to weave them together in style and theme and at times it just felt a bit forced. There were certainly some great laughs, but they were often far between.
While it wasn't as funny as I'd hoped, it did turn out to be more interesting than I'd expected, particularly in addressing the image of women and discrimination issues. Tina does a great job of presenting these thoughts from an interesting and personal perspective often mixing in a bit of humour without diminishing the seriousness of her observations. Worth a read, but I probably won't get around to re-reading it.
