Saturated Fat Saga

While I was shopping at New World, I came across with an interesting spread from MeadowLea. The line ; 65% less saturated fat than butter" was fairly attractive that I purchased a packet of margarine at a whim.

On returning home, I compared the ingredient table with my favourite butter and slightly astonished as it did have less saturated fat than butter.

It has 14.9g of saturated fat per 100g however our beloved butter got 53.9g , more than three times of unwanted thing.

In this case, margarine also contains a higher amount of anti-inflammatory healthy mono and polyunsaturated fats, while butter is mostly full of saturated fat. Saturated fat has been linked to negative heart health and cholesterol, though the effect might not be as large as previously thought.

But even with its high saturated fat content, butter still beats out margarine. Why? Because many brands of margarine contain an even more dangerous fat: trans fat which is supposed to be the most unhealthy and has the most negative consequences for heart health.

In short neither is idea but lI think the lesser evil is butter because when it comes to butter versus margarine, it's not a question of which is healthier but which is less bad for us. Skip the trans fat and go with butter.
