I believe Google should never have gone down that road although internet censorship is incompatible with their guiding principle, "Do no evil". It might about time they wake up and get back to what they want to be about. Hence I think they've learned a valuable lesson, that compromising on their principles is just the thin end of the wedge, and it just leads down a certain, downward pathway.
Enabling that sort of behaviour doesn't change things for the better for sometime in the future.
It just enables it to cause harm now.
