Opium Poppy

I have some poppy seeds which are called Papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum 'Black peony', with dark burgundy, almost black, double flowers.  The colours range from a deep burgundy, wine, through to a dark dusky scarlet.
I consider the poppy as the most beautiful flower in the world.

The Chinese miners brought opium poppies to the goldfields of Central Otago, obviously for different reasons! The poppies still somewhat grows wild on the hills, but not quite as well. It's legal to grow poppies here in New Zealand but extracting the essence from them is prohibited by law.

In Persian literature, poppies are regarded as the flower of love and they are often called the eternal love flower.

I think these tiny seeds will deliver very pretty peony shaped blooms in this summer.
